DeSales High School 'teen club'. This would have been mid '70s. No one there liked them....too loud was the complaint. Wish I still had that glossy print out of the scheduled groups. I swear I think it had to be them.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17799111938248009737noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751911308135838995.post-34945143122442695572010-03-15T23:42:38.431-04:002010-03-15T23:42:38.431-04:00@Dave Martin:

What more can be said?
When Toke! entered SFHS in the fall of '77, the older guys were still talking about this gig.
On a side note, it did give some legs to a few persistent and completely false city-wide rumors, most notably that:

1. Aerosmith ("you know man, pre-Dream On," as the word on the street went) played a dance at our cross-town rivals, St Johns H.S.
-and-
2. Boston played the prom at Ottawa Hills, the (gulp) coed High School down the street from SFHS, a rumor aided by the fact that Boston git-man Tom Scholz graduated from the school in '65.

The stoner world absolutely ran on bullshit in those days.
God I miss 'em. "neckties required/no blue jeans".

Sadly, this is the kind of venue that I think is lacking in today's market. To have to play for a bunch of dudes forced to wear ties definitely makes a band better. The gigs can't all be California Jam 2. And maybe the SFHS folks thought they WERE getting a Hendrix cover band.

Dave MartinAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5751911308135838995.post-6989843978473656622010-03-14T15:57:57.009-04:002010-03-14T15:57:57.009-04:00Sure, the thought of MR making a pit-stop at a Tol...Sure, the thought of MR making a pit-stop at a Toledo High school might blow our 21st century rustbelt minds, but it was rather common for major acts to play at the High School auditorium in the early decades of rock.

The Doors performed at Danbury High School shortly after their appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1967.

Read about it here

A recording of this concert is widely available thanks to some teen troublemakers at the Danbury HS AV club.

Haw!GeekFelixnoreply@blogger.com
